On March 30 and 31, the troops of Burmese military LIB No.428 based in Prusoe Township visited around the villages in Khothamaw, Lawkhuku and Lawplar Leh to collect the lists of the young men and women over the age of 18 and forced them to undersign alongside with their names witnessed a young man who himself was forced to sign into the paper.
“They [the Burmese troops] began to collect the names and asked how many young men and women in the family. They said if there are two or three youths in one family, some will have to serve in the army and after collecting the lists, they will be recruited into the army”
The Burmese army has collected the lists only in the villages that are in remote areas but no registration has been done yet in the cities like Loikaw and Demohso.
In January this year, the Burmese military LIB No.578 confiscated lands from the local villagers in Lawjar, Daw Lawkhu and Markrawshe villages of Prusoe to build two military training grounds, but no confirmed date yet when the construction will began.
The news of the conscription law that will force every man between the age of 18 and 45 and every woman between 18 and 35 to serve in the Burmese military leaked out to outside media on December 17, 2010.
Although the law has not been made public to take effect, the Burmese government began to collect the lists of the young men and women in some rural areas in Karenni State.
