The Burmese military promised Karenni people to give a Chinese made Tawlawgyi (plough machine) to each village' chiefs for voting to the Burmese regime's proxy political party, the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) in the coming general election.
Burmese troops based in Bawlake led by Major Aye Cho has invited village's chiefs from seventeen villages on the late of August then villager' chefs have to persuade their villagers to vote for USDP, according to the local sources.
"The Burmese major promised our village's chiefs that if the USDP wins the election, each village's chief will be awarded with a Chinese made Tawlawgi. The Mawchi old car road will be rebuilt and to be a better transportation the new roads to each village will be constructed," said, one of village's chiefs who attended the meeting.
The local analysts censure that the promised is uncertainty, "We could not say the words will come true or not, we have to wait till action is speaking," he added.
Exile medias state that the 2008 Constitution gives an unfair advantage to the Union Solidarity Development Party. Meanwhile, Karenni community said they will not vote for any party that supports the regime's 2008 Constitution.
Taw Reh,a director of the Karenni Documentation Research Group, said "People in remote areas did not vote for the constitution, the army took signed bloc votes for each village from the village heads. The used this as proof that the villagers approved their constitution."
According to the Karenni sources inside, the Karenni people in Loikaw division, Loilay Lay villagers have been threatened by the Burmese authorities that they (ballot watchdog) will be watched close in the coming of election.
"The authorities told villagers, If they voted against the USDP to lead the lack power of USDP the ballot watchdog and officials are likely going to be punished by having to do forced labor."
