The Burmese troop led by Captain. Kyaw Thu, the LIB no. 517, which based in Shandaw Township, Htay Yuu Taung also known as Loipeeso has ordered rice from Dawtanaw and Dawmule last couple days, according to Karenni sources in Shandaw Township in Karenni state.
The two villages were forcibly had to pay rice to the Burmese troop. Dawtanaw village for 10 cans full of rice and Dawmule is 8 cans full as well, but no cash for rice’s cost.
Drought destroying crops in Burma has caused serious food shortage in at average provinces in the central of Burma and ethnic regions, but local based troops are denying the disaster events and led to starving people, local resident says.
"They (SPDC troop) forced us to feed them gratis. As we have faced with the water shortage this year, we are on worry for poverty. In the same time they ordered rice from our villagers, meanwhile the local authorities were doing nothing to aid the villagers," said a local resident.
The resident sources also said that the Burmese troops held a meeting with the village leaders then ordered 5 sacks of rice in every village along Shandaw Township.
Following the Karenni Army blocked the Burmese troops’ movement of foods in last month, a consequence issue is revenged to KA by threaten the Karenni residents, said Karenni Social Welfare and Development Centre (KSWDC).
Burma Nine, a vice coordinator of KSWDC, said “If they still using the villagers to carry rice for their troops, Karenni Army will block it again. As a resulted, they do not force the residents to carry rice and foods to their based camp for them, they just ordered to be ready and get themselves.”
There are 12 villages left that they have to prepare 5 sacks in each village of rice for the Burmese troops in Shandaw Township
