A new Karenni party with established in Karenni State is preparing to contest this year’s upcoming elections and submitted its application to the Union Election Commission (UEC) on the 20th of July and received the commission’s approval on the 5th of this month.
The junta’s Union Election Commission on July 5 allowed the National Unity and Development Party NUDP, (Kayah state) to formally compete in this year’s elections, issuing it with the registration number, 40.
NUDP was formed independently; there are no political wings of any opposition groups and SPDC which formed by Oo Mi Reh Myint, a party chairman of NUDP and Oo Mi Reh (Yet Aung), a secretary of the party. Most youth in Karenni state encourage this party, said a resident from Loikaw.
"Before set up this party, the USDP's chives come and said, "No need to form this party" but we do not care. Most of party members concerned that voters will decide which party is going to win," he says.
Since it only received approval a few days ago, the party had not started campaigning nor had it yet satisfied the legal requirement for party members and currently summated its party entrance fees, party policies, party flag and party logo to the Union Election Commission (UEC), sources close to the party.
Meanwhile, the Karenni National People's Liberation Front (KNPLF), which intended to contest of Deemawso, Pruso, Namekhon, Maese townships and its controlled areas in Karenni state, submitted its meeting on March, last year.
However, Party Chairman Oo Htun Kyaw, denying allegations of receiving financial support from the military regime, less of party members and educated person which had not been accepted. Meanwhile, NUDP formed the party as a necessity for the Karenni people in Karenni State.
The other party which attempted to contest in Karenni state is Kayin People's Party (KNP), which denied acceptance by Karenni National Progressives Party (KNPP).
According to the KNPP's statement on May 11th said that the party's further directed is seem to be occurred the discrimination between Karenni ethnics minority then they banned not to contest in Karenni state.
